FIS is the Italian Shiatsu Federation

All over the world, the majority of Shiatsu practitioners are organized into federations whose tasks include guaranteeing training standards for professional practitioners – by means of exams – and guaranteeing qualification by means of refresher courses, meetings and symposia in which ideas can be exchanged.

The Italian Shiatsu Federation, founded in 1990 by some of Italy’s pioneer Shiatsu practitioners and teachers, is a private, non profit-making association, which represents the interests of the discipline and of those who practise it. The FIS is not a Shiatsu school, nor does it represent the emanation or the interests of one or more schools. It is open to practitioners from any walk of life wishing to study the Shiatsu discipline in a professional way.

The FIS is committed to safeguarding the essential features of Shiatsu as handed down by tradition, to correctly applying Shiatsu techniques and to establishing clear standards and codes of behaviour for professional practitioners. The federation is thus a benchmark for anyone interested in this discipline and a guarantor of the first class professional services provided by its associated members.

Via the FIS and the international associations connected to it, Shiatsu practitioners vindicate the right to their own professional, cultural and social identity. They wish for a new area of Italian culture to be opened up, with a different approach to the concepts of healthcare, personal care and the general concept of welfare in the community.

In 1993, along with other European federations, the F.I.S. formed the “European Shiatsu Federation”.
In 1998, along with other Italian associations, the F.I.S. formed the “Interassociazione Arti per la Salute”
This year, 2003, along with the Swiss, German and French Shiatsu federations, the F.I.S. has formed the “International Shiatsu Network”.
